the may journal!
an archive of all the wonderful things that i consumed and did in may!!!
an insight into the month of may for me:
I have had the most amazing May! It has been a very busy month for me…
At the beginning of May I moved out of my university dorm because I finished my first year, which was a whirlwind and I cannot believe that it is over already. My boyfriend and I then went to Switzerland for a week where we explored the area and visited many beautiful gardens. After I got back I went to Spain with my family and we hiked an 800m mountain which was incredible, I ate amazing food and I tried a cosmo for the first time! I feel so fortunate to have been able to go on all these trips, but I am also excited for a slightly more relaxing June!
books:
I gave this book 3/5 stars. It was a unique concept and interesting premise. I tend to rate books as to how much I enjoyed them, and to be honest I did not find myself longing to pick this one up. In saying this the first half had me hooked and the prose was beautiful.
I then read Demon Copperhead. This book took me such a long time ( I do think I picked the wrong time to read it as I was on holiday) however I was engaged the whole time. The story was haunting but it was simultaneously beautiful at the same time and I found myself thinking about it when I was not reading it. I gave it 3.75/5 stars, mostly because of how long it took me to read but also because I found myself getting lost in the writing sometimes which is not necessarily a bad thing. I think if I read this at a better time I would rate it higher.
I have recently started watching Girls, and heard the buzz around this book and had to pick it up! Safe to say I was not disappointed, I sped through it and gave it 4/5 stars. I loved learning about Lena’s complex relationship with fame and the people in her life! I think this has inspired me to read more memoirs.
I went into this book blind and it was a wild ride. I was hooked immediately and loved the family dynamics and what was going on! I gave this book a 5 stars because I enjoyed it so much and I do believe Madeline Cash is a genius. The ending was a bit rushed and I only say that because I wish the book was longer (I could have read 1,000 pages about this family!)
My best friend zara🪸 recommended this to me and because she usually has the best recommendations I thought I would give it a go! I found the first two parts oddly consuming, and I felt so connected to the characters and could really understand them. But I found myself very lost at the last two thirds, but the last 20 pages or so was mind-boggling! I need to think on it…
I did not finish this during May and possibly will not until July! But so far it is very exciting and I want to take this one slowly and enjoy and engage with it as much as possible.
If you like hearing me rant about books don’t forget to join my book club! - our current read is It-Girl: Jane Birkin biography!!

what i have been watching:
films:
remarkably bright creatures - it was the only film I watched in May and I absolutely adored it! I think it is best to go in blind but it was heartwarming and powerful
tv:
I have been watching Gilmore Girls seasons 5/6 this month because I randomly decided I wanted to! It has been fun and I am a Rory Gilmore defender so I find these seasons possibly my favourite
Rivals season 2 is out!!! Obviously not all the episodes are on streaming but so far it is so good. The romance, tensions and dynamics in this series are so bingable.
I have been dipping into season 2 of At home with the Fury’s, for me it is a background watch but nonetheless I have been enjoying!
youtube:
I love watching video essays, but mostly my comfort creators! I have linked my favourite videos below and I honestly could have added so much more but I had to restrain myself!
podcasts:
it is probably really obvious that I am the world’s no.1 shameless media listener but I have linked the three episodes that I enjoyed the most this month. Their one on clipping culture opened my eyes and completely educated me about a digital world I had no idea about. I thoroughly enjoyed their celebrity gossip segments, as I love a bit of drama but no longer get it through my socials ( I linked my favourite one from May). Lastly, I love listening to their old Scandal episodes to get me through a chore and their one on the Sofia Vergara’s battle for the rights to her eggs was simultaneously haunting and entertaining and I really recommend.
As someone who runs I really enjoy the motional intelligence podcast, especially any episode with Hugo Fry because he is hilarious. I love hearing all these professional runners stories because they are so interesting and inspirational.
As a history student I do enjoy the odd history podcast and the Hot History episodes about destroying history were so fascinating and definately a debate I would love to explore further in my degree!
I also love the Book Club, especially their episode on ACOTAR because I am someone who loves classics and fantasy and their discussions were so thought provoking, it is a fairly new podcast and I 100% believe if you love reading you should get into it!
random:
I created a book club in May and that has been suuper fun, and I am hoping our June read will inspire lots of discussions.
I have been obsessed with the byoma moisturizer as someone who has chronic dry skin and eczema especially after lots of swimming in the sea it rehydrated my skin.
My favourite purchase this month was a huge tote bag (in leopard print!) It seriously fits EVERYTHING in and is comfortable while being stylish!
I have been living on pinterest this month, mostly because I have been planning outfits for my alaska trip in July with a friend… (I cannot believe I am going there, it has been my dream trip since forever, I am so lucky to be able to go) here is my pinterest board if you are curious!

OMG I discovered charli chats for the first time last night (I watched her essay on the manosphere, got a piece coming out on that topic soon…)
I work at an independent running trainer store and one of my colleagues recommended motional intelligence to me yesterday and said she finds Hugo hilarious too (I do also).
HOW. STRANGE.
Love all of these recs this article has been copy and pasted into my notes app xx
Gilmore girls fan here! I’m also in my rewatching (don’t ask me how many times I’ve seen it, I lost count): currently season 6!
What a great read!
